KASCON XXIII Election Guidelines

Elections for KASCON 23 will be held on April 18, 2008 at 6PM at Jon M. Huntsman Hall room F45 (3730 Walnut Street). All candidates seeking consideration must prepare position papers that will be distributed to all voters at the election. Positions are open only to actively enrolled students, voting is open only to enrolled students who anticipate involvement in organization and execution of the KASCON conference.

Position papers must answer the following:

  1. Name, major, year and hometown.
  2. What is your vision for KASCON 23?
  3. What has been your experience working with the Korean American student community?
  4. Have you attended previous KASCONs? What were your positive and negative impressions? 
  5. What leadership roles have you had?
  6. What is your approach to working in teams?
  7. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  8. If you don't get elected to the KASCON 23 Planning Committee, will you run for another position and/or continue to help with KASCON?

Elections will be held with the Executive Director position first; candidates who do not win their first choice post are encouraged to compete for other open positions.

You must email us your position paper no later than April 15, 2008 to kascon-advisors@googlegroups.com. Please include the position you are running for as well as a 2nd position choice.

General Position Descriptions

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
1. Responsible for the overall vision, theme and strategic direction of the conference.
2. Must work in close consultation with The Mirae Foundation and the University.
3. Motivate staff through meetings, training and various tasking requirements.
4. Work closely on all big-picture matters with final decision authority.
5. Responsible for any setbacks in organization and planning as point of contact.

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR (up to 2)
1. Assist the Executive Director with any administrative requirements.
2. Schedule all regular Committee meetings with advance agenda and follow-up minutes.
3. Interface with Group Managers for QA/QC and to aggregate all work effectively.
4. Work closely on all big-picture matters and provide advice to the Executive Director.

FINANCE GROUP MANAGER (up to 2)
1. Assist in maintaining the banking and accounting systems of KASCON.
2. Assure fiscal discipline and strict adherence to the approved Operating Budget.
3. Secure local community sponsorships and personal donations.
4. Secure corporate sponsorships and Career Fair participants.
5. Follow-up on a timely basis with all finance-related reporting requirements.


PROGRAM GROUP MANAGER (up to 2)
1. Draft a conference program that is consistent with the overall theme.
2. Secure opening ceremony, closing ceremony and general session Keynote speakers.
3. Invite and confirm all remaining seminar and workshop session speakers.
4. Receive endorsement letters from Elected Officials.
5. Work closely with Logistics Group to set session locations and assess requirements.
6. Responsible for any and all speaker contact and follow-up.

LOGISTICS GROUP MANAGER (up to 2)

1. Devise and execute an efficient participant registration system.
2. Find at least twenty committed volunteers outside the core Committee members.
3. Work with the University and the Hotel on all the infrastructure issues.
4. Produce conference participant packets and also a general system operation plan.
5. Contact various KSAs to get an estimate of the number of conference attendees.
6. Work out speaker escort arrangements and assistance to the KAE and Career Fair.

MEDIA GROUP MANAGER (up to 2)

1. Send out regular email update newsletters prior to the start of the conference.
2. Produce the official conference handbook and speaker packets.
3. Update all information on the website and make sure that it is current.
4. Develop all offline collateral and promotional material related to the conference.
5. Develop relationship with KSA contacts across the country.
6. Send any promotional material where needed and also interface with the press.

ENTERTAINMENT GROUP MANAGER (up to 2)

1. Finalize the production program for Friday evening entertainment
2. Follow-through on all travel arrangements and any special requests needed.
3. Confirm the DJ and related equipment for Saturday evening afterparty.
4. Responsible for all coordination related to the Korean American Exhibition.
5. Responsible for all coordination related to any other special events programming.
6. Work in conjunction with Kollaboration staff to produce Saturday evening Kollaboration show.
